Excercise

By adapting, acclimatizing, desensitizing, reshaping, and by a variety of ways to protect itself, the body is able to self-heal and receive the pounding of this harsh stress-polluted world.  But as the body ages, its ability to self-heal declines making exercise and discipline with regards to food, rest and abuse imperative. The biggest cause of stroke is stress and self-abuse.Stress leads to high blood pressure. Stress makes us unhappy creatures. Unhappiness makes us vulnerable to a variety of stress related diseases including stroke, diabetes, cancer, and many more. Thus, with stress being the root cause of most diseases, we need to de-stress and become happy.

Scientists say that when we exercise, we release a hormone called “endorphine”. Endorphine   elevates moods, enabling the person to find harmony and satisfaction in the things around him. Thus for stroke victims, even when difficult, exercise is imperative. When a stroke victim exercises regularly, the chances of another ischaemic attack is reduced.  Indirectly, it strengthens the skin, the brain, the immune system, and it helps with weight control and muscle strength increase. Those who exercise improve their posture and self-image as well and are able to sleep better at night.

Generally breathing exercises, work well with most patients so we start from there. Warm ups, cool downs and stretching are always encouraged. Walking routines, housework like gardening, cooking  are encouraged. Sometimes even video games are helpful. What is important is gradual increase in intensity, regularity and discontinuation when there is pain.  Combining exercise with music does wonders and that is our practice.   Our exercise instructor is as recommended by Stroke Association, suited to the stroke victims. We believe that exercise helps us to move on because there is life after a stroke.
