Stroke Action Croydon offers services to everyone. It is non discriminatory and we work in partnership with service users, carers, health professionals, and family members to raise awareness and help provide facilities that will help make a difference to the social life of our client group.
Prevention support includes information dissemination basically – teaching people what stroke is and what causes it and most importantly, how stroke can be prevented by exercise, a happy disposition and good diet. This can be done via the net, by flyers, public symposiums, media like radio and TV and newspapers.
Emotional Support – Phone numbers, Facebook and email addresses are published to offer counseling advice to stroke victims and survivors. A relationship counselor will attend to the caller within minutes. The physical address of the stroke support service center is also published in case the stroke victim or his family decides to visit. Emotional support includes giving practical information and advice aimed at preparing the stroke victim and his family for possible traumatic changes as well as for stroke recurrence prevention. Support for the victim covers also a provision for aphasia which is the difficulty in using language or speech because of damage to the speech centers in the brain. Confidence building is a necessary goal for volunteers and professionals because it is always our belief that there is life after a stroke.

Huge changes and challenges requiring a lot of adjustments should be expected after a stroke. Returning to society can be a painful and formidable task, we are here for you and your family.
Caregiver Support
We believe that care giving is as daunting as being the stroke victim. Caregivers need also to be supported. We can direct your career to support groups and associations to help him cope with the burden of supporting you. We shall provide him with information and advice that will make his task easier to accomplish.
Childhood Stroke Support
Even children suffer from stroke. Child stroke support will include imparting information and advice to parents on how to cope with the stroke and the changes that come with it.
Hemi Support – Hemi pertains to a stroke that affects one side of the body. Support comes in the form of information that will enable parents and family to care for the one they love.
